The Breadmaker
So we got pretty much all the kitchen gadgets when we got married. I finally tried out one of them. I have always wanted a bread maker because I have envied all those people that can make bread...we never home-made bread in my house when growing up. We had the missionaries over for the 3RD time this week and I made Italian food - you have to have bread with that. I found a recipe for 2 cheese bread and made it. Too bad I didn't know how long it was going to take to bake until I actually started it. It wasn't done in time for the Elders - so we could eat more - MuHAha! And we were able to even use our handy dandy food slicer too. How exciting! Who thinks we can open our own bread factory?

The Opossum
So my mom came up to J-ville for the day - we did a lot- we went shopping, I framed a picture that I got in Rome in 2001 (finally), we went to David & Busters (this restaurant/game room - like Chuckee-Cheese but for adults), we went to the beach, and then went looking at old bungalo style homes. It was so fun. While we were out I saw this old opossum in the road moving REALLY slowly. I had Omar turn towards it and I started taking pictures. Normally these things are really quick and start running. He was just so old - so I got out and started taking pictures. He is a really scary looking sucker - if he could have moved quicker he would have probably bitten me and given me rabies. But for all those that want to see a opossum! Have you ever seen one before?

America's Next Top Chef
Omar and I have been watching America's Next Top Chef. It is actually a good show and it makes one feel very inadequate in the kitchen (the fact that they can figure out what to make with a few items, their own knowledge, and an hour of cooking - incredible). This is just one of the many meals I have made since getting married. Omar had no idea that really I was able to cook before we were married - seeing as I had never made him anything - except once (see below)
He told me after we were married that he looked forward to coming home from work to see what delicious meal I had made. He told me that he really had won the lottery by marrying me (what a sweetie). Maybe I could go on America's Next Top Chef - and win!

The Haunted Hubcap
While we were engaged I drove Omar's car - the Camry. One day I spent the night at my aunts house and she lives in an area where there has been a lot of construction. I woke up in the morning to go to work to find that the rear passenger side tire was completely flat. I called Omar, and he came and put a spare on. Later he went and found a new tire - which due to his car type cost an arm and a leg (over $200 for ONE). He went to have it put back on the car and aligned and realized days later that he left the hubcap at the store. The store no longer had it. So we drove around without a hubcap for about 2 months. He kept telling me to go and buy a pack of cheap ones from PepBoys for $30 (Since to get one that had the Toyota logo and matched all the others was $80 for one!) - to get the same ones. Well I finally did. The day of our wedding he went to put them on while I was at the hairdresser and they were the wrong ones. He returned them, got the right ones and put them on. So today we went to my sisters car wash for water polo. Later that day I thought it looked like that SAME hubcap was coming off so I tapped it. We were driving down the road and Omar saw the hubcap roll behind the car and kept going toward the median. We chased that hubcap down and rescued it - I wonder what adventure will be next with that dumb hubcap.

"stupid old lady"
So I thought I would share a few funny moments from the night before and day of the wedding...
Omar now calls me "stupid old lady" - it is a running joke in the Spilsbury household
"stupid" is sometimes understandable
"lady" of course
but "old" - i never considered myself THAT old...
"Stupid Old Lady" Incident #1
It began at the airport when I went Friday night before I was married at like 11:30 to pick up my good friend Sarah. Well a guy hits Omar's car while I was driving through the arrival part of the airport. It had been pouring down rain and I was just thinking "you have got to be kidding me - this is something I don't need to deal with hours away from getting married. The guy made no moves to show that he had recognized that he had hit me. I get out of the car...and walk to him. He rolls down his window and I tell him that he hits me. He proceeds to let out a loud, flavorful amount of bad language and calls me "stupid old lady" about 20 times. At the same time some other people drive by and ask if I need help. The guy cuts around and drives off - I was able to get his license number while the lovely airport attendant proceeds to do his job of moving me along with the whistle (ubelievable). Luckly there was no damage that I could tell.
"Stupid Old Lady" Incident #2
The following day on the way to the temple - we are starving and realize that most likely we would not be eating for the rest of the day. We stop at Burger King really quickly. Omar runs inside to get the food and I sit in the car. Some people come out to get in the car next to us. I notice that the car is parked extremely close to us. Note - that we are parked in the middle of our lines. The lady proceeds to open her door towards Omar's and hits it. I mouth through the window for her to be careful. She then starts cussing me out and calling me "stupid old lady" about 15 times and proceeds to slam the door hard against omar's. If I hadn't been on the way to get sealed in the temple and had my hair and make-up done, I would have gone out there (she could have taken me though). Interesting how Satan can work against you at the last moments. How these people all KNEW to call me "stupid old lady" I will be forever baffled.
The Ring Exchange
In the temple Omar and I exchanged rings. A few people may have noticed that I put his ring on the wrong finger. We died laughing and non-chalantly moved it to the correct hand. So hilarious since everytime he held my hand before that it would be the right hand and he would ask where my ring was - i had to constantly remind him it was on the other hand.
The Veil
So sad day! I bought this beautiful veil to go with my dress and I don't have one picture with it! I forgot to put it on with my bridal pictures and then with the excitement of the day I never put it on. I have never worn my veil and I can't even return that expensive sucker. A few people mentioned to me later that they wondered where it was (including Omar), but didn't want to say anything to me about it - I had it with me the whole time, just plum forgot.

Target: Home of the EVIL crock pot and registry
NEVER EvEr eVeR do a gift registry from Target. Omar and I have learned that the hard way. I have been an avid Target lover and shopper for years - buying all my friends wedding gifts and things from there. Never again! I actually don't ever want to shop at Target again! Well Omar and I got 4 crockpots - 2 of which were the exact same (from my registry). I went to try to return them to Target along with a few other duplicate items and they would not take them back. They said that I had to have a gift receipt. I explained that I was not given one but that I could show that it was on my gift registry and proceeded to show them my printed out version from home. They didn't care. They would only allow 2 returns per year without a receipt and the item had to be under 20 dollars - meaning they wouldn't take anything back - not even for store credit (which was all I wanted). I talked to the manager and she suggested I call the gift givers up and ask for the gift receipt or their original receipt. I asked her if she would actually do that. She didn't respond. So basically we were stuck with too many crock pots.
Until...my husband had an ingenious idea.
What if we were to go and buy the same crock pot in cash and then return it (thus getting our cash back) - we would still have the receipt including the gift receipt and then could return the other crock pot. Well it couldn't hurt to try - so we did. It worked we were able to even get cash back for the other crock pot. Who did I marry that would actually come up with a scheme like that? Target doesn't deserve our business. We have already told a handful of other friends that are getting married not to register there.
