A Night in 5 Points

Our friend, Aaron and his wife, Allison, had never been to 5 Points before, they don't venture out very often, and when they do they stick around their neighborhood. Omar and I of course like to introduce people to new things so for Aaron's birthday we got him a groupon to this Irish Pub in 5 Points and also a groupon to the 5 Points theater. We had our own so it was date night.

We went to O Brother's Irish Pub for dinner. Omar had Corned Beef and Cabbage while I got the Fish and Chips. The food wasn't too bad. We went and window shopped while we waited to be able to go into the theater. There are some really neat stores in that area.

I seem to look tired in every picture these days.

We had been waiting and waiting to find a movie that we were interested in and that was not Rated R to come to the 5 Points Theater. It took about 3-4 months. Omar and I had never been to the Pub or to the theater there before. The 5 Points theater is a really old looking theater from the outside and we soon found out from the inside. The bathroom was an old bathroom upstairs. You can no longer be seated upstairs, but you could tell that was what was used for segragation in the past.

Theaters like that remind me of the Arcade in Downtown Kissimmee that used to be. We would go to the theater there for cheap, and it was so old. I remember that I saw my first PG-13 movie in a theater there at the Arcade. My mom's dream was to buy the old building and restore the Arcade to its former glory. After all she went there as a child too, back when you could see a flick, get a candy, popcorn and soda for 25 CENTS! Those must have been the days.

They usually play old classics and movies that are not as mainstream as those you might find at a Regal, AMC, or Cinemark theater. We went and saw the movie, "Atlas Shrugged: Part 1". That happens to be my sister, Lindsey, her favorite book. Allison also was super excited to see it. I am always a little worried that Omar won't like the more intellectual movies, but he really liked the film as well. I think we will want to go and see the other parts if they come to film. It is too bad that it didn't make it to larger theaters, as it was a good picture. Too many films these days, do not make us think anymore.
